Professional Bio
Dr. Sears’ research examines the written and enacted curriculum concerning reasoning and proof skills, attention to equity, and technology integration.
Dr. Sears is the co-chair of the Accelerating Systemic Change Network (A.S.C.N.) Working Group focused on Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, and Social Justice; a steering committee member for the Association of Public Land-Grant University- Network of S.T.E.M. Education Centers; and constitution committee member for Bay View Alliance. Additionally, she is the Associate Editor for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (N.C.T.M.), Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching Pre-K–12 journal, and a blog editor for the 2022 AAAS-ARISE.
Dr. Sears is a 2021 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow, a 2023 honoree for Mathematically Gifted and Black, the 2023 Griffith Leadership Society for Women – Spirit of Martha Award, and the 2016 Florida Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (F.A.M.T.E.) Mathematics Teacher Educator of the Year.
