Professional Bio

Sarah Hopkins is Associate Professor in Mathematics Education at Monash University. Her interests in improving computational fluency date back to when she was a secondary teacher of mathematics and noticed her students relied on counting when adding together two single-digit numbers. In the area of computational fluency, she has led four research projects (included one funded by the Spencer Foundation) and is currently leading an ARC Discovery Project. Her research in this area has now extended to encompass early algebraic thinking.
