Ruth Nneoma Oliwe, currently pursuing her PhD in STEM Education with a focus on Mathematics Education at The Ohio State University, is a Graduate Research Associate on the Digital Mathematics Storytelling project under the supervision of Dr. Theodore Chao. Ruth’s research interests encompass the utilization of digital mathematics storytelling to delve into and comprehend the complex interplay of Black students’ stories, the formation of their mathematical identities, and the vital aspect of anti-racism within mathematics education. Additionally, her research extends to the exploration of the mathematics teacher identity of Black pre-service teachers.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Ruth writes and creates comic stories as resources to showcase and teach relevant life skills, the beauty of family and community, and ways in which mathematics plays out in students’ immediate environments. Ruth Nneoma Oliwe is a committed scholar and advocate for equitable education, using her expertise to make a meaningful impact in both research and practice.
