Dr Mary Coupland lectures in mathematics and enjoys inspiring future scientists and engineers to be successful in using mathematics. She also teaches quantitative literacy in the elective subject "Arguments, Evidence and Intuition". Teams led by Dr Coupland have won teaching awards, and she has been awarded a personal citation for excellence in teaching at UTS. Dr Coupland is passionate about encouraging teachers to contribute to their profession and she is an honorary life member of the Mathematical Association of New South Wales, the state professional association for teachers of mathematics. She was President of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, 2014-15. For her work with Professional Teachers associations, she was awarded the Outstanding Professional Service Award by the NSW Professional Teachers Council in 2012 and the Exceptional Service Award in 2020.
