Jill Newton

Professional Bio

Jill Newton is Professor of Mathematics Education at Purdue University (U.S.). She earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy at Michigan State University, an M.A. in International Education at George Washington University, and a B.S. in Mathematics at Michigan State University. She began her career teaching mathematics as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Papua New Guinea and has taught in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bulgaria, Tanzania, the United States, and Venezuela. At Purdue University, she teaches graduate and undergraduate mathematics education courses and courses offered in association with her Tanzania study-abroad program. Her research focuses on K–12 mathematics curriculum, secondary mathematics teacher education programs, and study-abroad programs. She has been awarded research grants from the National Science Foundation and Spencer Foundation, serving as Principal Investigator on Codeveloping a Curriculum Coherence Toolkit with Teachers and Co-PI on Excellence in STEM Teaching in Indiana.
