Angel Ruiz

Professional Bio
Born in Costa Rica, Ángel Ruiz has focused on the History and Philosophy of Mathematics, and on diverse topics of Mathematics Education, especially curriculum.
He has produced more than 400 publications (including 36 books).
He has been a guest speaker at more than 170 face-to-face events in more than 25 countries on all continents.
He produced the first Spanish version of Carl Gauss's Disquisitiones Arithmeticae (originally written in Latin).
He inspired and directed the elaboration and implementation of the national mathematics school curriculum in Costa Rica (grades1-12) officially approved in 2012.
He is the only Latin American who has held the vice presidency of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction for two terms.
He was for 8 years a member of the Commission for Developing Countries of the International Mathematical Union.
Ángel was president of the Inter-American Committee on Mathematics Education for four consecutive terms (2008-2023).
Director/president of the Mathematics Education Network for Central America and the Caribbean (since 2012).
